The display on the Sage and Forma provide roughly the same amount of physical space as the page of a printed paperback and their bigger screens give you more flexibility when it comes to font size, and also means onscreen images are bigger – both elements that lead to a generally more comfortable reading experience. The Sage is now broadly available across the major regions that Kobo ereaders are sold in (North America, Europe, Asia and Oceania) and can be purchased directly from the Kobo online store in select markets. The 8-inch Sage is Kobo’s most premium ebook reader (not counting the 10-inch Elipsa, which we consider a note-taking device first and ereader second) and as such it carried a high-ish price of $259.99 / £239.99 / AU$439.99 on release. As of February 2023, there has been a slight increase across all markets, and the Kobo Sage is now priced at $269.99 / £259.99 / AU$459.95.įor comparison, Amazon’s 32GB Wi-Fi Kindle Oasis is a touch more expensive at $299.99 / £259.99 / AU$449, but the Oasis does include an aluminum chassis, whereas the Sage uses soft-touch plastic (not to mention more functionality thanks to stylus support) the Kindle is undeniably the more premium option here.ĭepending on where you live, the Sage’s price is still a significant 50-60% step up from the next Kobo model down – that’s the 7-inch Libra 2, which sells for $189.99 / £169.99 / AU$299.99 and shares a very similar design in a slightly smaller (and arguably more convenient) size. Kobo Sage (Black) at Amazon for $269.99.So it’s a bit quirky at this point & maybe a firmware update in the future might fix that. ![]() So if you do not see your Bluetooth-enabled device in the first scan, you must go back and forth. ![]() Also, the Bluetooth interface does not have a rescan feature. And since the progress is synced on all the devices, you can be sure to pick up on another device from where you left off.īluetooth is however not 5.0. ![]() Likely hood of someone carrying a mobile phone is more than a laptop, tablet & e-reader.Also, this use case mostly fits when you are commuting or just lying down with closed eyes but want to listen to the book for better concentration and reduced distraction. More so because audio is supported only via Bluetooth and there is no audio headphone jack you can use. For this matter then it becomes irrelevant if you are using it via e-reader or through a mobile device. Audiobooks are preferred when you just want to listen and not stare at the device.Kobo App which you can install on any mobile device such as your phone, laptop, or tablet already supports audiobooks. Please note that this justification is only valid for existing Kobo e-readers be it Libra H2O or Elipsa or Forma. Will you upgrade to the newer Kobo model just for this feature alone? This is a personal choice, but I want to put the following points in my defense of the “not-so” deal-breaker of a feature. However, the point is if this is even a deal-breaker. By introducing this new feature, Kobo has now closed the gap that Amazon Kindle was showing as a differentiator, and that too at a price much lower than what Amazon Kindle Oasis sells at if you pick Libra 2 for that. Audiobook was the feature that none of the previous Kobo e-readers had.
